Additional Information
"The RUOK? Program is a computer-based telephone calling system offered through the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department. This program is designed to conduct daily checks on participants. Participants in the program are generally senior citizens who live alone or have specific physical or medical needs that would cause them to need daily contact to ensure that they are "OK". This program is not intended to replace programs such as Medic Alert or other programs that deal with medical problems.
The way this program works is, anyone interested may complete the required forms and submit them to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department. This information is forwarded to the communications department. The information will be reviewed and verified with the applicant and any questions or concerns the applicant has can be discussed. The information will then be entered into the computer with a predetermined calling time and start date.
After the information is entered, the computer will call the participant on a daily basis. When the participant answers the telephone, the computer will play a pre- recorded message from the sheriff and will hang up. The program is designed to detect answered calls only, it cannot tell the difference between a person and an answering machine. This is why participants cannot have an answering machine in operation during the time of their call.
Should the number being called be busy for a pre-determined number of tries or not be answered, the computer sends out an alert. The communications center personnel will then attempt to contact the responsible party listed on the application to go to the participants residence and check on their welfare.
If you have an appointment or have plans to be away from home for any specific time, contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department. The program is capable of having "no call dates" set for each participant. Those specific dates can be entered into the computer. This will stop the calls for the dates the participant will not be at home, and restarts them automatically on the date the participant advises they will return to their residence.
If you are interested in this program you will find the required forms below. Print them out and complete them and mail to the
Fayette County Sheriff’s Department at the address listed below. Should you have any question regarding this program or the forms below, contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department Communications Center at 979-968-5856.
