Additional Information
"The Ocean Shores Police Department's RUOK program consists of a computerized automated phone dialing system. The system places calls to a portion of our community, on a daily basis. The program is designed to check the welfare of targeted individuals who don't have anyone else to check on him or her.
The system dials the individuals phone number and plays a prerecorded message when their phone is answered. If their phone is not answered, the system creates a print out of the individuals address and physical problem, if any, before an officer responds. The beat officer makes a determination if forced entry is necessary, once arriving on-scene. If a targeted individual leaves their home before their daily phone call, they simply call the station to report they will not be home that day.
This system was donated to the Police Department by Oak Harbor PD and AARP. It is a successful means for us to keep checking the welfare of persons who need the special attention. Currently, we phone 12 persons on a daily basis to check their welfare.
The phone system also has the capability of conducting additional predefined autodial functions which allow us to make several calls per minute to warn our Hotel/Motel population regarding storm or other emergency information."
