"The Whittaker Senior Center provides an array of services for seniors that include telephone reassurance. Seniors volunteer to regularly call older, fragile seniors to keep them connected to mainstream society. The calls enable them to socialize and feel less isolated and alone. The volunteer caller `checks on' the senior regularly and through their conversations may be able to detect a new health problem and prevent a potential emergency. Many clients' lives were saved by a Telephone Reassurance caller when their phone call was not answered and the alert volunteer investigated further."
